Code of Ethics

The journal CIENCIA KAWSAY strictly adheres to the international standards of editorial ethics established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), ensuring the integrity of the entire publication process.

CODE OF ETHICS FOR AUTHORS

Submitted manuscripts must be original and unpublished, with a maximum of six authors whose contributions must be specified using the CRediT Taxonomy. The journal uses plagiarism detection software, setting a maximum similarity threshold of 10%. Authors must ensure that all individuals listed as authors have made a significant contribution to the research and have approved the final version of the manuscript. In research involving human participants, informed consent is mandatory, and anonymity and data confidentiality must be protected. Conflicts of interest, whether financial or personal, must be explicitly disclosed at the time of submission.

Transfer of Copyright

Authors must attach a document to the manuscript consisting of two sections: (1) the “copyright assignment letter” (signed by all authors), in which they grant the journal the right of first publication under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, and (2) the “authorship statement” (signed by the corresponding author), which certifies the actual contributions of each co-author according to the CRediT taxonomy. It should be noted that the opinions, findings, and conclusions presented in the articles are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the institutional position of the journal or its Editorial Board.

CODE OF ETHICS FOR REVIEWERS

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of the double-blind peer-review process and disclose any conflicts of interest that may affect their objectivity. Reviews must be conducted constructively, substantiating all observations and adhering to established deadlines. Reviewers are responsible for alerting the editorial team to possible cases of plagiarism, falsified data, or undeclared conflicts of interest.

CODE OF ETHICS FOR EDITORS

The editorial team guarantees the confidentiality of manuscripts and impartiality in publication decisions, based exclusively on the academic quality of the works. Editors must disclose and refrain from participating in processes where conflicts of interest exist. The journal is committed to correcting errors and publishing clarifications or retractions when necessary, in accordance with COPE protocols.

READERS’ RIGHTS

The journal CIENCIA KAWSAY guarantees permanent and free open access to all its articles from the moment of publication, offering content in HTML and PDF formats for reading, downloading, and responsible use under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, which allows for the sharing and citation of works with acknowledgment of authorship, for non-commercial purposes, and without modifications. Readers can access standardized metadata (OAI-PMH) for integration with digital repositories, thereby ensuring maximum visibility and compliance with the principles of open science (FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). This model eliminates economic and technological barriers, democratizing scientific knowledge for the global community.
