Editorial Process
The journal CIENCIA KAWSAY guarantees the quality and academic rigor of its publications through a double-blind external peer-review system. This process ensures impartiality and anonymity at all stages of the review: neither the authors know the identities of the reviewers, nor do the reviewers have access to the authors’ information. Reviewers are selected based on their experience and expertise in the specific field of the article and come from academic institutions and independent research centers unaffiliated with the publisher.
PRELIMINARY EVALUATION
Receipt of a manuscript does not guarantee automatic publication, as all manuscripts must undergo a rigorous evaluation process. First, the Editorial Board verifies the originality of the document using a plagiarism detector (Compilatio), rejecting any material that has been previously published or that shows a significant similarity of more than 10% with other works. If the manuscript meets this fundamental requirement, it is then evaluated for compliance with the journal’s editorial standards, including formal, ethical, and content-related aspects.
This preliminary evaluation process takes a maximum of two weeks. Once completed, authors receive a formal notification via the platform indicating whether their manuscript:
- Proceeds to the next phase of peer review,
- Requires revisions to meet editorial requirements, or
- Is rejected for failing to meet the journal's basic criteria.
The journal reserves the right to accept or reject any manuscript.
PEER-REVIEW PROCESS
After passing the preliminary evaluation, manuscripts enter the double-blind peer-review phase, ensuring the anonymity of both authors and reviewers. This process is conducted by two external experts with recognized expertise in the manuscript’s subject area, who issue one of the following reasoned opinions:
1. Acceptance without revisions (in exceptional cases),
2. Acceptance with minor revisions (no further review required),
3. Acceptance conditional on major revisions (subject to re-evaluation), or
4. Rejection (for failure to meet academic criteria).
In the event of significant discrepancies among the reviewers, the journal’s Editor analyzes the reports and may:
1. Mediate to resolve the differences,
2. Request a third review from another expert, or
3. Make an editorial decision in consultation with the editorial board based on criteria of quality and originality.
Communication and Revisions
The results of the review are communicated to the author via the editorial management platform, along with the complete peer review reports. Authors have a specified deadline to:
● Implement all suggested corrections,
● Provide an academic justification for any recommendations that have not been incorporated, and
● Resubmit the revised version.
Timeline for the Review Process
The entire peer-review process is estimated to take four to 12 weeks, a period that includes the assignment of reviewers, the academic peer review, and the communication of results. This timeline may vary depending on the complexity of the manuscript and the availability of experts.
It is important to note that if the author does not submit the requested revisions within the established deadline, the manuscript will be automatically removed from the editorial system. This action will be carried out by means of a formal notification to the authors via the platform.
PROOFREADING AND FINAL EDITING PROCESS
Once approved for publication, the article enters the editorial proofreading phase, where a specialized team conducts a thorough review that includes: verification of writing standards and academic style, grammar and spelling correction, standardization of bibliographic references according to APA (7th edition), validation of metadata (ORCID, keywords in Spanish and English), translation of the text into English or Spanish as appropriate, and implementation of the Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. license. This process ensures the formal quality of the manuscript and its compliance with international standards for scientific publication prior to its final dissemination.
LAYOUT AND QUALITY CONTROL PROCESS
After completing the editorial review phase, the article is laid out according to the journal’s publication format, adapting its design to established typographic, layout, and visual structure standards. The formatted version undergoes a thorough quality control review by the editorial team, which verifies the correct application of the format, the integrity of the content, and the accuracy of the graphic elements. It is then sent to the authors for review and final approval, requesting that they confirm:
1. The accuracy of their personal information and institutional affiliation.
2. The completeness and accuracy of the academic content.
3. The correct presentation of tables, figures, and references.
Only after receiving explicit approval from the authors is the article published.
PUBLICATION PROCESS
Once explicit approval has been obtained from the authors, the article will be officially published in the journal, ensuring its immediate and permanent availability to the academic community. Articles will be made available in multiple digital formats (HTML and PDF) to facilitate access, reading, and citation from various devices and platforms.
Each publication includes:
● Complete metadata for proper identification and indexing.
● Information on the Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
● Citation options in various academic styles.
The final version is archived in the journal’s system, ensuring its long-term digital preservation and integration with international academic repositories. Authors receive formal notification once their work is publicly available, along with a permanent link for access and dissemination.
ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES (APC)
The journal CIENCIA KAWSAY adheres to the open access model to ensure the barrier-free dissemination of scientific knowledge, allowing any reader worldwide to access, share, and use the published content free of charge. CIENCIA KAWSAY does not charge any fees for the submission or publication of manuscripts.
ANTI-PLAGIARISM POLICY
All manuscripts received undergo a rigorous originality check using the specialized software Compilatio, which detects potential similarities with other works to ensure compliance with copyright laws and uphold ethical standards in scientific publishing. When similarities exceeding 10% are identified, the corresponding author will be notified in detail so that the necessary modifications can be made; however, it is important to note that the journal will automatically reject any work that, following this review and correction process, still has a similarity percentage exceeding 10%, as this limit represents our unwavering commitment to original academic production. Only manuscripts that meet this originality requirement will proceed to the next step in the editorial process.
